By the end of the year I would like for my US History class to not only meet, but surpass the state test benchmarks. Not because they should but because they want to. If I can help my students experience history outside of the classroom, I believe they will be eager to show off their knowledge.
My students are amazing.
They work really hard to overcome daily obstacles inside and outside of school. Over 70% of my students are growing up in poverty but what they can offer my classroom with their real life experiences is priceless. They prove to me every day that their greatest weapon of wealth is their brain.
My Project
This donation will help to alleviate the cost of the final payment that needs to be made in order for this trip to happen. It will be divided amongst all students that are going on the trip and will help pay for our four day trip: charter bus, lodging, meals, entrance fees into museums and historical places, night security guard, driver. More importantly, these funds will allow my students to experience: the Battle of Gettysburg (in Gettysburg, PA), the Holocaust (through the Holocaust Museum), the life of Washington (at Mount Vernon), the Great Depression (visiting FDR's Monument), the Civil Rights Movement (visiting MLK's Monument), America's Involvement in War (visiting WWI, WWII and Korean Memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, Vietnam Wall), Fight for Freedom (Lincoln Monument) and much more.
If students are given the opportunity to experience education outside the four walls of a classroom, it will leave a larger impact on their future.
This trip will also allow my students to experience new places and ways of life, which will give them a more well-rounded perspective.
