My students LOVE coming to school! I work in a Minneapolis Public school where 85% of my students receive free and reduced price lunch/breakfast. School represents a safe and caring environment for a population of homeless and highly mobile young learners. These children look at school as a place to get food, learning opportunities, and consistent care.
In my High Five classroom, we work on social/emotional learning, language and literacy, math, creative arts, and how to be citizens in our community.
My Project
The doll house in our classroom is always a busy place. Our current doll house furniture has been passed from one teacher to the next, and many of the pieces are missing or broken. Adding updated doll house furniture will allow my students more real-life play opportunities as well as give them more home life vocabulary.
My student population is very diverse.
The students need doll house people who represent who they are and their peers. Adding Asian and African American little people to our doll house center will give my students the chance to act out their own family life.
