My students need 4 LeapFrog Tag Systems with a variety of LeapFrog books so they are able to read and interact with stories during the Daily 5 Reading program.
Reading is everywhere! If you couldn't read, you wouldn't even be able to read this post, signs, or anything around you. Our Kindergarteners need a variety of tools to help them become successful lifelong readers.
In August a new set of Kindergartens will step into the Public School in which I work.
Some have attended VPK and for others, it will be the first time they have stepped into a classroom. They come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. From that second on, my goal is to help them become successful individuals. One of the steps in doing this is teaching them that reading is not only important but fun! Building a passion for reading at this young age is extremely important. My past students have walked into the door with comments like "I can't read" to leaving saying "I love reading" and "The best part of Kindergarten was learning to read". The way they absorb and retain knowledge is amazing.
My Project
This year I will be using the Daily Five Reading Program in my classroom. This gives student's various opportunities to learn and build a love for reading. One of the five components is called Listen to Reading. Students will listen to reading in a variety of ways. Listening to others read truly helps to build fluency as well as being very entertaining. Some students have the parent support at home to listen to reading, but others do not. I am requesting four LeapFrog Tag Reading Systems, as well as a variety of books to go with them. These systems allow students to listen to reading independently. It allows them to not only listen to the story but interact with the book. Children can click on words, pictures, etc. This helps them build their vocabulary, phonics, and comprehension skills. It also allows for various learning styles to be addressed like auditory, visual, and kinesthetic making it effective with many types of learners.
This project is very important as I start the Daily Five with my Kindergarten class.
This is my 8th year of teaching and I am extremely excited to implement the Daily 5 into my classroom for the first time. This system will allow for young students to learn to read and love each and every minute of it. These children are our future and it is important they learn to love reading right away as they grow into adults. Thank you for your time and support!
