Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a learning strategist who is currently working at a Title 1 school, in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a student population of mostly English learners from low-income households. Because of Covid-19, our students haven't experienced a traditional school year, the past two school years, which has led to many learning gaps that are affecting students' reading and math abilities. Many of our students' Fall MAPS scores fell lower than the 40th percentile. This past month, our students have be working hard to prepare for the Winter MAPS assessment. Our students have been practicing different test-taking strategies and using tools that will help them grow and meet their individual growth goals. We're working hard to motivate students and plan to celebrate their growth by having a dance party as a reward for growing at least 10 points. Having these supplies for students at the party will provide an enjoyable environment that students have definitely earned for working hard on their Winter MAPS assessment.
My Project
Many of our students’ Fall MAPs scores fell below the 40th percentile. This can be very discouraging for students, especially after coming back to school after being home due to Covid-19. Students and teachers have been working very hard to help students build their stamina, learn test taking strategies, and use test taking tools. The glowsticks, party lights, party favors, bubble machine, and inflatable microphones will be used at our school to reward students for their hard work and celebrate their growth on their MAPS ELA an Math assessments, at a school dance party. Our students are currently working hard on the Winter MAPs assessments and are using all their test taking strategies. They are looking forward to celebrating their growth in both ELA and math!
