My students need the Animal and Plant Kingdom Survey Kits to further study plants and animals. These kits will really bring the plant and animal kingdoms to life!

My science lab is a place where hands-on learning is a must. Students in my class must be able to conduct an experiment, gather data and analyze that data. By the end of the school year, I expect my students to be able to independently conduct scientific investigations. Hands-on materials are key.
My students all live in high poverty areas in the Delta.
Most are being raised by grandmothers who can offer little support, transportation or funds for extra supplies. Our school is located in the middle of a high poverty area. Most of our students ride a bus and 92% are on free lunch. What little supplies families send at the beginning of the year are typically all they send for the whole year. Extra supplies for our classroom is something that is not possible unless we get the funding through wonderful organizations like DonorsChoose.org. Being able to see the faces of the children when they walk into my science lab and look upon all the wonderful specimens and supplies makes my day. Getting to manipulate, hold, study and experiment with all those supplies will give them the same opportunities as children in larger well-funded schools get every day. Getting things for my lab helps me to help my students learn, grow and succeed!
My students love learning about animals. Since it is difficult to study animals without bringing them in to the classroom, specimens are the next best thing. I want to enhance my students' learning with actual specimens of plants and animals. These specimens will give them great details about both. The specimens will help me to teach my students about plant growth from seed to plant. It will also help me to show them the stages of animal growth. What fun it will be to have them hold the specimens in their hand as we discuss each animal and plant. I love to have the students teach each other as well. They will be able to pair up or get into groups and each group take a specimen. They will then do a short presentation for their peers! They become the teachers. They have a great sense of pride when they are teaching their friends. They love presenting information to their class. These materials I've requested will enhance such a lesson.
These materials I've requested will make my Science Lab a wonderful place for students to conduct hands-on investigations.
Donations to fund my project will allow my students to master the skills needed to conduct independent hands-on investigations using wonderful and relevant materials. I have former students that come up to me and say how much they miss my science lab and always tell me some of their favorite labs they conducted in my class! It warms my heart and makes me proud of them!
