Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The love of learning begins with a burning curiosity about our world. Kindergartners arrive at our doors with this desire to learn and with the audacity to take risks in their learning. This risk taking is key to deep, engaged learning.
When classrooms are student-centered and learning and learning documentation is student driven, even the youngest among us can make discoveries on our own.
My job as the teacher is to set up the environment and the circumstances necessary to support students' natural quest to know.
Kindergarteners who are immersed in a literacy environment that reinforces their innate need to explore will engage more deeply and widely in their learning. By creating a learning environment where students can direct both the direction and the expression of their learning, we can create a classroom community where we come together to support children and create successful students.
My Project
My students need an Apple iPad, an electronic cutter and art materials to create documentation of their learning. This documentation is a way to express what they have learned as well as a way to permanentize learning for reference as they move forward in their learning inquiries. They will independently and collaboratively use the literacy materials to express what they have learned and then they will make that learning permanent by photographing, recording, and creating classroom and school-wide documentation that they can refer back to as they learn. Students will use the baskets to organize and store their new literacy materials.
