This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning how to write sentences, paragraphs, and essays is a grueling task for any ninth grade student. It is especially grueling for those students who are not native English speakers in my classes. My students have a hard time writing when they cannot look at their peers examples too.
My students are freshmen.
Half of my classes are English language learners (ELL) who have a drive to succeed and learn the language, although they have many obstacles. The school in which we study is a Title I school and funding for educational technology is limited. The ELL students have shown and said they learn and accomplish when paired with a native speaker or if they are able to view examples from a native English speaker. My students have a passion to learn and to write about what they know and what they learn.
My Project
This Elmo would encourage my students because they would be able to share their writing with their peers, get feedback, and encourage a sense of community in the classroom. During the writing process, students will be able to share their work with the entire class at once, without having to make copies. Students will be able to learn from one another about writing and reading using this Elmo. I will be able to show examples to students as well, when we first begin the school year. I also will be able to show students different resources for writing as well as novels, short stories, and poetry without have to make copies and run out of materials. Students will also benefit by using technology in the classroom to get them ready for the technology that they may encounter in the working world.
Please help to make a difference in my students learning.
By funding this tool, my students will be able to have direct feedback and instruction. Students will also gain confidence in front of their peers by showcasing their own work.
