My Students

I am in my tenth year educating in Washington DC. My students are from a Title I school, which is one hundred percent free or reduced price lunch. They have suffered from the systematic racial disparities of DC education and now the pandemic. In fact, most of my students don't read on grade level due to significant learning challenges. As you know, DC is gentrifying quickly, like most cities. My students aren't getting a fair chance to stay in the neighborhoods they have grown up in for generations because they don't have the tools to stay there (jobs, education, understanding of the economic climate, etc.) I won't be another person to run them out of their own town.

My Project

My project is integral to my students distance learning success.

My students will need to learn from home for the first Semester and I need a continuous document scanner to scan books from our reading system to disseminate electronically to students so I can reach them at their individual levels.

We use books in Nearpod to make asynchronous lessons to supplement learning and create opportunities for students at their convenience. They are familiar with Nearpod and this book system so it will give them a sense of success and confidence as we push forward.
