Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first and second-grade students are an awesome group of students who are energetic, curious, and love learning. They are a diverse group that includes English language learners, students with special needs, and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
When our Title I school was closed due to the pandemic, we only had two days to prepare and my students' lives were turned upside down.
Though it took a few weeks for my students and their families to get their basic needs taken care of, get access to technology, wi-fi, and so on, our Zoom meetings have now become a safe place for students to stay connected and to continue their learning. Almost all of my students consistently show up to our meetings eager to see one another and ready to learn!
My Project
During Zoom sessions, it has been a challenge to go back and forth between the Zoom whiteboard and other web pages, and at the same time trying to keep an eye on 15-20 first and second graders. My visual learners have also been struggling during some lessons because they have to rely on their auditory skills.
A document camera will give me the ability to more easily display books, flashcards, math manipulatives, and other materials to keep my students engaged during remote learning.
A document reader will also allow lessons to be more interactive and interesting and allow us to do science experiments "together" and use other realia to teach and reinforce concepts.
