Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As an effective teacher, I want to share my ideas and thoughts as vividly as possible to my visual learners. Knowledge can be inspiring. Technology can help to inspire.
I teach a Special Day Class at a continuation high school.
All of my students have been diagnosed with a mild/moderate disability and are attending my class due mainly to poor behaviors at the regular high school. Most have had some history with drugs, violence, sexual abuse, and/or extreme defiance. Nearly all have trouble dealing with anger. A handful have already been through the juvenile justice system. On the surface, many may view them as lost causes. Listen closely and you will find that their personal histories are heartbreaking yet they carry on. Looking deeper, you may find hope that people so young can and do change. With some inspiration from our part, they may. Looking deeper you may find an opportunity to help.
My Project
A document camera is more than just a replacement for the archaic overhead projector. It not only does away with transparencies and copies, it allows teachers to vividly show documents, pages from books, 3-D objects, microscopic images, and more - all in real time.
The camera would be connected to the classroom multimedia projector and used for various classroom activities such as: editing essays, displaying assignments, showcasing artifacts, displaying textbook passages, maps, and important images, demonstrating paint brush strokes of an art lesson, and much more. Students would not only visualize concepts better, but it also would inspire interactivity and may even help students improve their own presentation skills.
Implementing a document camera in my classroom will allow me to display my thoughts, ideas, lessons, and examples on a large screen format, live in vivid color and detail.
Simply put, enhancing teaching will ultimately improve learning.
