I have taught 5th grade for the last 11 years at the same building and I love my job. We have kids from a small rural farming community, and we regularly have very interesting days. Our building is in an area without much cell phone service and while it’s very rustic, it does lend itself to special issues, namely communication. Luckily, being on the Wifi solves that issue for the most part for the teachers, and rarely, when the wind blows in the right direction, the cell phones can receive a call on it.
The kids are very unique in their small town environment and learning about the outside world is vital to their understanding of the world around them.
We live within a 20 minute drive from another state and often, our kids are so sheltered they don't get to visit it very often.
I try daily to instill a sense of work ethic and a positive mindset in my students and love to hear about what is going on in their lives. I hope the connections they make in my classroom with their environment, reading, and history will last them a lifetime.
My Project
This document camera will allow me to project all of the same resources I use at school to the kids who are choosing to learn from home as well. This is a very challenging time for us all and my students are working so hard despite the challenges of this pandemic. I would like to be better able to suit all student's needs regardless of us being in the same room with one another!
Students learning from home already face more challenges than kids who choose to be in the classroom.
I don't want the medical needs of my students or their families to interfere with access to a simial educational experience.
By having this camera, I will be able to project exactly what I am doing for my in-person kids over our online class so the kids at home are able to participate in real time.
