Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students do not have art class. I am seeking a variety of art supplies to give the students the chance to illustrate what they see in their wonderful minds. My students need to build coping skills and a better way to express themselves. Art is a great pathway to positive self-expression.
I am a school psychologist in a special education elementary and middle school.
The children are all eligible for free and reduced-price lunch and some are in foster homes. They are very low cognitively, and many of them replicate a lot of the aggression they have seen.
My Project
My students need art projects and supplies for the new school year! This project helps these children focus on creating something meaningful to them. My students experience a lot of stress and anxiety, and a project such as this really helps calm them down and decreases stress. The project occupies their hands and minds, and they come away with something they have created which they can feel positive about. I can literally see stress disappear from their hands as they work on creating something that they enjoy. They spend the whole day more relaxed and ready and able to learn.
In counseling, art is the perfect medium for expression of feelings.
I am seeking a variety of art supplies to give students the chance to illustrate what they see in their wonderful minds. With your help, my students will have age-appropriate materials to show their understanding, as well as explore their own talents. Art helps children relax and keep calm. It allows artistic expression -- a form of verbal expression -- and it is fun! Please help my children discover what art is!
