Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you love to play games? Do you remember playing games as a child and having fun? My students love to play games. Why not give students the opportunity to have fun as they are reinforcing concepts taught through engaging games.
We are a second and third grade classroom in California.
My students are currently working below grade level. Many of my students are English Language Learners. My students try their best when it comes to learning. Games are a great way to support my students in meeting the academic standards they are required to master.
We are a low-income school and have limited funds for classroom supplies. As much as our school would love to purchase these games to help my class, recent budget cuts do not permit this to happen.
My Project
My students need 11 engaging literacy and math games such as 3-In-A-Row, Flip & Match Cause & Effect, Main Idea Bingo, and others. The literacy games cover many skills and strategies needed for reading including vocabulary development strategies like multiple meaning words, synonyms and antonyms. Reading comprehension skills and strategies such as inferring and finding the main idea and details are also found in these games.
The math games will deepen their mathematical background which will help them do mathematical skills in the future with easiness. With these games my students will reinforce basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
My students will be able to use these games during our independent work time to reinforce skills taught during reading and math instruction. By having these games my students will be having fun and learning.
My students need literacy and mathematical games to make learning more engaging.
