My students are some of the most amazing people I know. I have a group of kind, hard-working, friendly, silly, funny, and overall wonderful students in my classroom. The feeling of family that has been created in my classes puts a smile on my face every day.
My students are 8th graders who come from a variety of backgrounds.
Fifty-seven percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I have a student living in a two bedroom apartment with his aunt, two brothers, and two cousins from another part of the family, and another student who lives in a million dollar home. Although many of my students have very different home lives, while they are at school and especially in my class, these students show kindness and respect to each other on a daily basis. We truly are a family.
My Project
I teach Pre-Algebra to an amazing group of 8th graders in a 1:1 blended learning environment. I record my daily lessons and post them online so that my students have on-demand access to the class content. This has been such a great experience for my kids and me. However, because I teach math, there have been many times that my tablet and a powerpoint presentation hasn't cut it. Sometimes my students need to SEE what my hands are doing. They need to watch me plot points, and draw the lines. They need to see me rotate, reflect, and translate a shape, they need to see my pencil work through the process of solving a multi-step equation. I have decided that having a document camera available to record those portions of my lessons is a critical piece of equipment to have available.
Aside from how I can use a document camera, having the option for students to show their work to the class will be invaluable.
Children need to see how their peers think, they need to share their process. This will give my students that opportunity.
In addition to the document camera, I have added a few accessories that will help complete my set up. An extender and LED light to make my document camera work in low light. A USB cable to connect to the computer. And a wireless microphone that can be used when recording my lessons.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!
