This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"See with your eyes, and not with your hands." How many times were we told this by our parents growing up. The same is true for my students. It would be great to be able to show actual student produced work directly as it is being created using the document camera.
My grade 5 students come from a mix of backgrounds.
Some come from homes where they don't get enough to eat so they have to bring backpack meals home for the weekend. Other students live in middle class, 2 parent households. It is the education that is provided in the classroom that provides them with some sort of balance. It is a time where every child is treated with respect and learning is brought about in a way that every child has access to it.
My Project
The computer will be used by students when they are in research groups. Our theme this year is around the world in 80 days, so they would use this computer to research information. The document camera would be used by the students to allow them to show the class what they have created with this research. They will work in their "passports" and then be able to display their work so that all the students could see. Also, we would use the document camera in writing. Using student generated writing samples is a great way for the students to understand the craft and skills needed to write a quality piece of writing. With this real-time, real-life experiences, I will be able to tweak my teaching to meet the children's needs.
This donation will help improve the classroom because the students will get an opportunity to learn from each other.
By providing the students opportunities to be the "teacher" with the real work they are creating, these resources will boost self-confidence as well as motivation to complete work that will be used as the "teaching" models for the class.
