Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school follows an inclusion model, so I have a wide range of student abilities in my classroom. This will be my 3rd year as a teacher and it has become one of my greatest joys to see students who thought they hated reading to find a book they love. It is so exciting to hear them talk with such joy in their voice. It has become my mission to find a just right book for every child I teach. It might be a 3rd grade level book for a 6th reader, but that’s ok, they are reading and loving it.
My Project
These books will offer my students a variety. The struggling readers and English Language Learners will especially benefit. It is difficult to find books they connect with and these will certainly help. The magazines will provide us with the nonfiction reading selections we are lacking. Students aren’t exposed to magazines and newspapers much these days and the Time KIDS will give us a new selection each month to keep the kids interested. The articles and pictures will match up well with the online piece. We can connect the magazine in their hand to the online resources included with the subscription. They learn so much better with a variety of books and sources.
