Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher in a Title I priority school. This means that there is very little funding, yet we have a high need for materials to support instruction. Many of my students do not have access to specific resources that they need to practice assignments at home and the lack of supplies can sometimes hinder their progress. In addition, many of my students have experienced trauma and hardships and I am amazed at their resilience every day. They come to school each day ready to learn and grow.
My students are endearing kindergarten and first grade special education students who are very eager to learn and deserve endless resources, experiences, and opportunities.
My students come with challenges including ADD, ADHD, speech and language impairments, and autism. It is my job to reach, teach, and inspire them all! They are all at different ability levels depending on their backgrounds and experiences in life. The children delight in activities that engage their minds and bodies, and they look forward to what each day of the exciting kindergarten and first grade world brings.
My Project
As we navigate the virtual teaching world, we need resources to help our students be more successful. My students would greatly benefit from having their own headphones to help them learn and focus during online instruction. My students live in a low-income area and many families are struggling financially to make ends meet. There isn't extra money for electronics supplies that are vital for online learning. Many live in homes where several children are online at the same time trying to listen to their Chromebooks without headphones. The noise makes it hard for them to focus and hear the lesson.
These headphones will keep students from getting distracted, and ensure they are fully engaged in the instruction being presented to them.
