How does anyone get better at doing something? You watch and listen to someone else do it and you practice yourself. Research says children become better readers when they practice every day with books they choose.
"Children are great imitators.
So give them something great to imitate" is something I truly believe in. By giving my students the power to listen to books every day, my hope is that they will "imitate" the good reading that they hear. Having CD Players will give them that opportunity. Our school promotes a "Kids First" attitude and every decision that is made is based on how it will impact our students.
My students are an amazing group of children who come from hardworking, lower middle-class families. Many of these families have parents that are working two or more jobs to keep their families afloat. For some of them, school is the only real constant in their lives. My class is very eager to learn and they all want to become better readers. I am very fortunate to have students who want to read and who want feel accomplished. As an educator I want them to have every opportunity to feel successful in the classroom.
My Project
We use innovative ideas and research-based strategies as a conduit which facilitates learning and enhances creativity. I have this same attitude in my classroom. My students are eager to learn and come to school each day filled with enthusiasm. They are funny, fun-loving and entertaining, and they make me want to be a better teacher! I want them to have every opportunity possible to feel successful! I am lucky and honored to be able to lead them during this pivotal time in their educational journey. By getting CD players, students will be able to listen to books on tape and hear what fluent readers sound like. Our class has started collecting books on CD and we need CD players for students to listen to the stories.
