Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an energetic bunch of first graders from a Title I school in Utah. We have 31 different languages spoken in our school, and nine in our classroom alone. Most of the students are English language learners who have gained their language skills from older siblings or cartoons watched on T.V. Many students are always willing to try their best to improve their skills despite their language barriers. My students are from a high poverty community. They usually come to school unprepared with the basic school supplies.
My Project
I am asking for headphones for each of my students to use while working on our district literacy program. Our district uses a literacy program called Lexia Core 5 to help the students improve their literacy skills. This program helps provide individualized literacy instruction and allows me as a teacher to see which areas they are needing extra assistance in. As with any literacy program there is a large amount of listening involved for the students.
The headphones will help keep each student focused only on their computer and the information that they are being given.
By being able to focus on only their information they will be able to learn the information more efficiently and will gain a better understanding of the skills they are working on.
