I am thrilled to be moving up to Kindergarten from our Pegasus and Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) class. My students are bursting with excitement to begin their kindergarten year, and I look forward to providing many of them a comforting and welcoming transition into their new room.
My students are packed full of energy, curiosity and eagerness to try and learn new things.
They love any opportunity to use their hands and get down and dirty as they explore the world and discover new learning. In my classroom, learning is safe, engaging and, most of all, FUN!
My Project
Guided reading is a vital piece of kindergarten curriculum. The challenge is providing engaging and rich learning opportunities for your students in order for the teacher to be able to pull and work with small groups.
Learning through various hands-on listening activities is a valuable tool to give students the opportunity for guided learning without the need of the teacher.
Thus freeing up the teachers time to focus on targeted small group instruction.
Being read to daily and a solid phonics foundation is of extreme importance in developing early reading skills. The Listen and Learn Phonemic Awareness Activity Program guides students independently through valuable lessons on phonics. In addition to the kit, these book sets on CD give students the an additional chance to enjoy books without the requirement of students to be able to read themselves. When students can enjoy books prior to developing independent reading skills they build a curiosity and excitement that makes learning to read enjoyable rather than a frustration.
