Our school is made up of a diverse group of 5th and 6th grade students. We are considered a middle school, but we try to keep many aspects of an elementary base. We realize that kids need to be involved with hands-on experiences with science, technology, and math. In our building, we have about 500 students from diverse backgrounds. Our building is considered a Title I school, which means most of our students are considered "at-risk." Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekends, and our school also runs a food/clothing pantry for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
Empowering students to express their voices is vital to their future success, especially when focusing on STEM learning. Our school has very large classrooms that are great but sometimes it is hard to hear others when voicing ideas and sharing out work. The only problem is that there is no classroom sound system in my room. This wireless microphone and sound system and would "unchain" my students, allowing them to create, collaborate, discover, and especially present their learning anywhere. The system is powerful enough so that a large audience would be able to hear, and it gives students an opportunity to command attention with their presentation skills.
Presentation skills develop organization and confidence as well as helping students find their voices.
