Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A big challenge to my students reading success is their limited exposure to fluent reading and guided experiences with a variety of literature.
My students are a group of 25 kindergartners that attend all day, everyday free kindergarten.
They are a diverse group both economically and ethnically. Our school is an at risk school with over 75% free and reduce lunches. We are a No Excuses school that promotes college readiness for ALL students!
My Project
The rechargeable batteries will ensure a learning-reading listening center that is both environmentally friendly and consistent. Students will continue to monitor the remote headsets to ensure they are turned off. However, the rechargeable batteries will improve the access to the listening center and students will never miss their exposure to interesting fluent reading because we are out of batteries!
The listening center is a classroom favorite because students are provided an opportunity to relax and enjoy interesting stories while listening to fluent reading.
A lot of times I, as the teacher, am the only adult in their life that reads aloud to them. Students are able to sit up close to the stories and work on their tracking, decoding, and oral listening skills all while relaxing in a quiet moment; a nice break from a bustling kinder classroom.
