I teach 3 sections of reading and social studies at a Title I school to 66 beautifully diverse, funny, energetic, and hardworking 4th graders. Their backgrounds and learning styles are unique and I strive to create a classroom culture that stimulates success.
I want ALL of my students to have the opportunity to learn in a way that is comfortable and productive to their needs.
Our school motto is "Many Faces One Family". My classes include diverse behaviors, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We have several English-language learners with a handful of students new to the country this year, along with gifted and special needs ranging from ADHD to Dyslexia to Autism.
My Project
The fluency phones would be instrumental in assisting my fourth graders to gain confidence and fluency in their writing and reading. Currently, I only have 3 of these phones in our classroom, but most if not all, of my students who would greatly benefit from using this tool.
During our writing time, I would love for my students to utilize these phones while composing, revising, and editing fluid compositions in order to increase their independence.
Hearing themselves read their compositions aloud will help them flourish as writers while not disturbing their peers who are also independently working.
Also, these phones would assist my students during reading. Because we only have 3 phones in our classroom, our small group of 6-7 students typically share the phones while working on phonics and/or reading passages together. I would love to be able to provide ALL of my students with a fluency phone to use during our small group as well as their independent reading time.
Therefore, providing each student with the opportunity to utilize this tool for writing and reading will foster their overall growth in English Language Arts. My students and I thank you in advance for considering our donation request.
