Mrs. Noxon from Pasadena TX is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 5 JBL Bluetooth speakers for group choreography work that is a requirement in the curriculum.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The school is located on the industrial side of a major city. For that reason, the neighborhood surrounding the school is poor. The nature of my students are the total opposite. They are consistently hardworking and focus is never an issue in the classroom. Even after being affected by Hurricane Harvey, my students continue to strive for excellence in the classroom.
A majority of my students are female and set high examples for other females on campus by dressing and acting appropriately.
They also work well with each other.
Lastly, many of them are involved in an early college program or AP classes at school. They juggle grades and extracurricular activities with their passion for the dance program.
Students are required to create their own choreography in all levels of dance classes. The freshmen classes work in groups, while the advanced classes are allowed to break off individually for choreography. A lot of times, they will even review a routine in their groups before an assessment.
Because there is only one sound system in the classroom, group projects are often slower paced because groups have to take turns using the outdated sound system.
Groups could use the same song selection however, it's not the best option because it limits creativity, as well as student enthusiasm.
There are 7 class periods in a day, therefore students are only given 45 minutes per class period. This time limit includes the process of changing into dance clothes, taking attendance, and warming up. Using the individual Bluetooth players would allow the students to use the class time efficiently.
Not only would it give them creativity and freedom but it would allow the students use of technology. It has become a requirement in Texas classrooms to incorporate technology into the curriculum. Using the Bluetooth devices would certainly help achieve that curriculum requirement.
After school, the drill team often works in the auditorium. When one group is on stage practicing another group will practice in the auditorium foyer while waitng for stage space. A Bluetooth device would certainly provide the students with a higher quality practice space waiting for their time on the stage.
To guarantee that the devices were taken care of, each group leader would need to sign out a Bluetooth device and sign it in at the end of the class period.
This would be an awesome tool which would be appreciated by all students and teachers.
