My preschool students are energetic, curious, tender-hearted, 4 and 5-year-olds that thrive on learning. They are part of a state-run program called The Great Start Readiness Program that helps children who are considered high risk. Our district also now provides free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch for all elementary students because of the local median income. While helping them overcome, we find ways to help prepare them for kindergarten and help them develop a love for learning that will grow throughout their academic careers.
Walk into our classroom and you will hear music, laughter, and conversations that will fill your heart with joy.
You may also get a bit messy because hands-on learning is our thing! We focus on developing literacy, mathematical, and social skills through supported play. In order to maintain an academically rich environment, we have to provide the students with materials that they can explore and manipulate to practice higher thinking skills.
My Project
In northern Michigan it is very common to have indoor recess because of our unpredictable weather. Our program has us in our room for breakfast, lunch, and all specials, so when this happens we are in our room all day long!
This boat will give us an opportunity to burn off some energy while we are stuck in our classroom all day.
While the preschoolers are rocking the boat together they will be working on social skills and strengthening their core muscles. This boat also has the ability to flip over and turn into a bridge. One of the motor skills that we work on in preschool is steps. With the help of this boat we will be able to work on alternating feet while climbing the stairs.
I know we will be able to incorporate this boat in so many ways. We are excited to make letter and number fish to use with this boat and also hope to use it in our preschool graduation ceremony. Imagine your preschool walking over a bridge of balloons to receive their certificate. How exciting! This boat will be an asset to our classroom and will also be multi functional.
