Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into class ready to learn and be the best students they can be. Many of my students are low income and have high poverty. My students are faced with many challenges daily that interfere with their academics. Despite their challenges, they have a great desire to learn and be interactive in their learning.
Many of the students I teach are in single parent homes where an older sibling might be taking care of the younger ones.
Very often, many of them go home alone due to the parents having to work more than one job to make ends meet.
However, I know that I cannot control their home environment, but I want them to be able to walk into my classroom and leave the stress and worries of home outside my door. I want them to feel they are in a positive environment so they feel excited about learning.
My Project
The fish and crabs habitats will provide my students with hands on experiences that they may otherwise not have that opportunity. My students come into the science lab excited about learning and ready for real hands on activities. The fish and crabs will engage them into a world of learning beyond the classroom.
My students are much more engaged in science when they have the opportunity to explore, create, analyze, and study with hands on moments.

The habitats will increase their motivation to learn. They will provide for responsibility opportunities. I have seen how animals can positively affect the learning of children.
