This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a goofy bunch. Almost every student is a big personality in one way or another. What makes them special is that there really is a sense of community in the school and that definitely transfers over to music class. The kids try their best to be inclusive to all classmates no matter what circumstances they may bring with them. We have a very large SPED and ELL population and our general ed students go out of their way to make those students feel like they are apart of the school.

My Project

I tailor my music lessons to give kids a well rounded learning experience. Any given day the kids will be dancing, singing, playing with partners, doing musical science experiences, or playing with instruments. Without fail someone in every class I teach will blurt out “When can we play with the drums?” We currently have a set of 8 small hand drums but they are falling apart. We are desperately in need of a set of drums for the classroom. We have made our own drums out of Kleenex boxes and other household items but the students would bee static to have drums of their own to play.
