Teens can read about & then create some of the hottest new DIY (Do It Yourself) crafts, recycling everything from discarded books to old buttons. Getting hands-on and making the coolest crafts can be a way to encourage teens' individuality and sense of self.
Located in a sunny neighborhood, our High School serves students range from 14-18 and many are learning English as a second language.
Young women can start at our school while they are expecting & continue after their baby is born. This year, for the first time, we are creating a library at the school, a space that will include books & electronic resources for academics as well as pleasure reading for teenagers. Several students were excited when I got a donation of yarn & crochet hooks. Now I want to add craft books & craft supplies to the library for these young moms to explore.
Projects can be used for class lessons, special events, or for a personal style statement, Teens will select favorite crafts featuring creativity and innovation. At weekly meetings, students will review & discuss projects; continue & finish craft or select a new project. As teens again expertise they can lead small groups with step by step instructions.
Several students eagerly took supplies & began projects from a donation of yarn & crochet hooks.
They have checked out every craft & cooking book we have in the library. Now I want to encourage DIY creativity, building crafting skills & perhaps developing life long hobbies. New books & craft supplies will provide many hours of fun DIY activities in our library.
