Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title I school in Las Vegas, Nevada. The school is able to offer 100% free breakfast and lunch to all of our students. I completed my student teaching at this elementary school, and I know my students will be entering my classroom with new challenges daily. At least 30% of my students will be entering first grade reading below grade level.
I want to make certain that my students will have every opportunity to succeed and grow.
As a first year teacher, I want to provide my first graders a learning environment that will encourage students, engage students, and promote academic growth.
My Project
I am asking donors to please help me build my first year classroom library. This leveled book library, including leveled books and book bins, will allow me to facilitate this growth for my students. It is important to teach our students the value of reading so they will grow to practice it often and value this skill.
A full and always available classroom library will give my students multi leveled reading options to continue their growth in literacy and become stronger readers.
My goal is to have my students develop a love for reading. Reading improves vocabulary, communication, and grammar skills, which ultimately improves their writing skills.
