Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school where 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch in New York. My First grade students love to learn and explore new ideas. Unfortunately, most of my students are functioning far below grade level standard in all academic standards. My students are very active, and love to be involved in hands-on learning activities. They especially love learning with the use of technology, such as the interactive whiteboard. I am amazed at how quickly children acquire new information through the use of technological tools! Technology's interaction and graphics always captures my students’ interest a lot more than our more traditional methods of teaching using paper and pencil. Despite being animated in my teaching strategies, technology usually wins in capturing my students' attention.
My Project
The iPad will give my students the ability to enter their responses while everyone views them on the smart board. Through these engaging moments, students will be more willing to participate, sharing their thoughts and ideas as they dive into learning. Students will also use the educational apps to work and excel at their own pace. This will serve to make learning a lot more effective for everyone.
The students in this school community are scoring well below grade level on state exams.
Research has shown that literacy tools like an iPad will boost student learning and performance.This is what we are striving for! My parents, students, and school will greatly appreciate your support as you help us to dive into learning.
