Help me give my students diverse books to build on their acceptance of others. With books like "Hidden Figures", "The Story of Ruby Bridges" and "Talkin' About Bessie" students will learn about diverse heroes!
My Kindergarten students are a great group of children that are eager to learn. Their imaginations and personalities keep me on my toes, but also laughing each day. We start every day off with music and a meeting to make every child feel welcomed and appreciated.
I teach at a Title I school and many of my students receive free or reduced lunch.
I know that each child who walks into my classroom comes with their own experiences and ideas. I love to understand where they come from and how they will fit into our classroom family throughout the year. My main goal as their teacher is to foster life long learners who enjoy reading, math, and science!
My Project
My students come from all different backgrounds and need books that reflect their culture within our classroom. I have been building a diverse library but am in need of additional titles (both fiction and non-fiction) to reach all of my students.
We need diverse reads because my students need to feel represented in the books that we read together.
The books are about heroes like Ruby Bridges, Katerine Johnson, Octavia Spencer, and Dorothy Vaughan. They have influenced the space race, desegregation of our Nation's schools, and will inspire my students to feel comfortable in their own skin. My goal is to not teach tolerance but acceptance for each other's differences.
