My Students

I teach speech and language skills to developmentally delayed children ages 3 years to 8 years (early childhood- 1st grade). Currently our building serves ~155 students on speech IEPs at Virginia Smith Elementary. This year myself and another speech pathologist were given the gift of a giant classroom as opposed to our tiny offices. We have so much room we can barely contain our enthusiasm! We are working towards creating therapy stations and specific areas to help enhance learning through play. There is so much fun to be had with this age group!

My Project

This year I was awarded a giant classroom as opposed to a tiny office. That's great right? Well not when you share that space with two other speech-language Pathologists. We serve ~155 students at our elementary school and previously we had separate therapy rooms but due to our "growing pains" we therapists now share this space. So at any given time we could have 3 to 12 children in the room all at tables working. Now what this means for our littles is, "Hey I wanna go over there", "what are they doing" and so on. You get the idea. It can be tough to stay focused. Well we could really use the room dividers to help our children focus this year!
