My Students
My students are amazing and energetic second graders who come from a variety of backgrounds. I would like to be able to get some books for the classroom that represents a wide variety of diversity, so student have not only books that represent them, but also books where they can see the variety of diversity in the world.
My students are energetic and excited learners who have to overcome some astounding obstacles in their home lives, but who still show me their thirst for knowledge every day. They deserve to have all they need to help them learn.
My Project
Students come from a variety of racial, ethnical, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. There are tons of books available today that help brings this diversity into the classroom and allow each child to be able to see themselves within the books they are reading.
If students can relate to the books they are reading, they are more likely to want to read and keep reading. This will lead to reading growth and reading comprehension. Second grade is a pivotal year to get students interested and vested in reading. If it doesn't happen by the end of second grade, students are shown to struggle with reading throughout the rest of their schooling. Please consider donating so we can get these books that show the diversity and allow students to want to read books because they can relate to the characters within them.
