Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have bright, funny, engaged students that try their hardest in the classroom. Many of my students are children with learning disabilities, that range from intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.

My students need culturally diverse books for our class library.

They are all very motivated and want to read- they simply do not always have the resources accessible to do so.The typical student in my class reads between a third and fifth grade level and many struggle with basic phonics. Several have interrupted formal educations, causing educational setbacks on top of language barriers. While they are faced with a multitude of challenges, they are kind, smart, hardworking, and come to class each day with the desire to learn.

My Project

I am hoping to give my students culturally diverse texts that help teach the curriculum. I have chosen many books that share how ALL people are similar in many ways. The diverse books will teach students to be acceptant of others.

I know the importance of teaching children how to be accepting of others and I want to have MANY classroom books filled with diversity to allow discussions to respect everyone no matter the differences.

By reading books about diversity, kindness, and empathy, I can help to grow the future leaders of our country and world. I am excited to put these books into good use and have discussions in the classroom about diversity, kindness, and empathy.
