This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an elementary school located in Virginia with a mission to build community, empower our students, and develop the whole child. Our school has a population of 520 kindergarten through fifth grade students. We strive to create opportunities that inspire students to positively impact those around them.
Third graders are inquisitive and excited about new learning experiences.
They like to communicate with their classmates and welcome opportunities to engage in collaboration which helps them deepen their knowledge. It is amazing to watch their progress!
My Project
Third graders will begin the new year with exposure to different cultures and experience a new flavor of books. They will read and recognize characters who look like them, and learn about the impact people have in our world.
Multicultural stories will help my students gain pride in themselves and increase their understanding of others.
These Multicultural Stories and Caldecott Books will provide students with a plethora of reading materials that have characters and information representative of many different cultures.
Students will have a diverse range of books that will build a sense of community in the classroom and help them develop a sense of awareness of the world around them. These resources will help improve literacy as students will read with peers and engage in meaningful discussions about the books.
