Help me give my students diverse literature. They need to see themselves, their families, and their cultures reflected in the stories they read.

"Every student can learn! Just not on the same day and not in the same way." We can come together to make sure these students are all success stories! We teach a classroom of 6 high amazing scholars in a substantially separate classroom located in an urban charter school setting. Our students each have a love for learning and want to do their very best. We work hard to ensure that not only their academic needs are met, but that the social and emotional aspects of their lives are an important aspect of their classroom as well.
With all that is going on in the world today, we believe that now more than ever our students would benefit from a classroom library full of diverse literature!
We believe that they need to see themselves, their families, and their cultures reflected in the stories they read.
A classroom library full of culturally diverse literature will allow our students to see themselves, their families, and their cultures all within the books they read. These books will not only touch upon the topics of diversity that are so important today, but they can also teach students coping strategies that they could use as well. All of these books have been chosen with our students in mind!
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to learn about the topics that are extremely prevalent in today's society.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word and teach them life lessons as well.
