This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty diverse school district, I have students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I would like for these students to enjoy kindergarten and learn about diversity by doing a self portrait of what they want to be when they grow up.

I would like to give my students materials to make a self portrait of themselves and what they want to be when they grow up as we celebrate their kindergarten graduation.

My Project

I want to teach my kindergarten students about diversity by reading books about diversity to them and having them express themselves through art by creating a self portrait and creating a cutout of what they want to be when they grow up. I would like to display these at our upcoming kindergarten graduation and have parents see what their childs self image looks like. I want students to be accepting of each other no matter their skin color, race or disability. Teaching this to young learners is a lifelong lesson that I believe will stay with them forever.
