My preschoolers are kind, curious, and active students who enjoy learning through hands-on activities and movement. They are independent thinkers who love the opportunity to make their own choices and feel ownership in their learning environment. My Pre-K students are from all backgrounds. I have 40 that attend our Title I PreK, Monday-Friday for a half day (am/pm). Our school services PreK-5th grade. We have over 700 students in our school.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and have different levels of academic experiences and low economic status.
Our program is Title I but due to budget cuts, our budget was cut for many things my classroom depended on. In our school, we have many students that receive free and reduced price meals for breakfast and lunch. My young students are very curious about the world and enjoy having the opportunity to learn through active and engaging experiences.
My Project
Our classroom is wanting to get books that meet the needs of all children in our classroom. By allowing this diversity through reading to enter our classroom it will show students that everyone is welcome and wanted.
"Diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having a voice, and belonging is having the voice be heard."-Liz Fosselin
After attending recent trainings on equity and inclusion, my eyes see very different. I never meant to not have a wide variety of diverse books but there are just not very many in my classroom library. I am hoping I can get this funded and put these books in the hands of ALL students in my classroom very soon.
