The freshman class is a pretty large and diverse group of students. Our student body comes from every socioeconomic setting. They are full of ideas and are so willing to explore and learn.
My classroom is where I challenge and encourage my students.
Students spend the year learning the foundation of knowledge and skills they will need as they move forward in the future. They are excited to explore the world of high school through various types of literature to expand their capacity for critical thinking.
They take pride in their efforts and are willing to challenge their minds for the sake of learning. It is my job to ensure their personal and academic needs are met daily.
My Project
I have a truly amazing group of freshmen this year. They have great spirit, energy, pride, and compassion for each other. They also share a common idea when it comes to reading. It's boring. After further investigation I have come to the conclusion for that common opinion. Forced reading.
I want to give my students a diversity in titles that equals the diversity in my room.
I have requested Feed, I Am Malala; The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian; Forged By Fire; The Secret Life of Bees; One Man Guy; Openly Straight; Boy Meets Boy; Another Day (Every Day); Every Day; I'll Give You the Sun; Restart; The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives; Long Way Down; Then She Was Gone: A Novel; Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel; Be More Chill; and Girl in Pieces and a book shelf to put them in and binding tape to protect them. I am excited to offer my students novels they can relate to and hope it will draw them into reading so they can find their passion.
