Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a partnership program between Head Start of Greater Dallas and Dallas it’s to provide high quality education to PreK students. Many of my students have never seen themselves represented in the books we read. Over 90% of the students on my campus are minority students yet curriculum only has these students represented in less than 5 books. My goal is to have books that make them excited about reading and characters that they can connect with. Thanks
My Project
By funding this project you will provide our youngest learners with a love of learning and pride though diverse literary sources. These books will open discussions about similarities and differences between themselves, characters, and one another. I also believe this will help with social emotional development by allowing us to learn about, understand, and connect with other cultures. This will allow students the become more empathetic toward others and build a stronger classroom community. I would love my for students to leave my class with a strong sense of self worth and love for others that will come from the use of these books.
