My Students

I teach an amazing group of third graders in a large metropolitan area. They come into class ready to learn and share their ideas. They are teachers, too. They teach each other and me, through sharing their ideas and insights.

We are nurturing creative, diverse, confident, independent leaders; leaders who know how to think about and question the world around them; leaders who can problem solve in both a team environment and on their own; leaders who have goals and work to reach them.

My Project

Recently my students come up to me and lament that there aren't any books they like in the classroom library. Now, I have hundreds of books in my library, so I didn't take their lament too seriously at first. But after hearing the same complaint over and over, I gave the books in my library a closer look and realized a few things.

Our classroom library needs some updating and a little color and culture added to it.

It also needs some graphic novels and comic strip books. We need a more diverse library to fill our reading appetites. These books will help.
