I teach in a Title I school where over 90% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Our families comprise a multitude of cultures, including students from migrant families. A significant portion of our students have special needs and require materials for differentiated instruction. Our school has limited funds, so being able to meet the needs of all students can be challenging. That's why I am always searching for ways to provide access to materials that can benefit my high needs students.
My students need a variety of dolls and books that teach about diversity. Children love reading to those younger than them, and these multi-cultural dolls and books will give them that opportunity.
Teaching diversity prepares students to be global citizens by exposing them to people from different cultures and social groups.
With the growth of globalization, it is important for students to be able to work with diverse groups of people.
These books will teach students about being kind to all people and show that people are the same no matter what their skin color.
The dolls will not only expose students to different cultures, but also help them learn compassion, empathy, and kindness.
