Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love learning. They have diverse interests in science, math, technology, art, and social studies. My students love reading, exploring, and investigating to discover new things. They love working as a cooperative group for a shared goal. My students are sweet, funny, creative, and curious. They love to help each other and their teacher. They are self-motivated and very hard-working. They WANT to learn and succeed! They excel when they are given opportunities to use creativity and collaborative thinking in a safe and peaceful learning environment.
Simply put, my students are extraordinary!
Each teacher in our school strives to create an environment where these amazing children feel welcome and valued. My classroom consists of students from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and home languages. 60% of my students come from homes where English is a second language or is not spoken at all. 75% of students in my class are economically needy. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home. School is a place of remarkable and endless possibilities for my students. They love coming to school each day and are eager to learn as much as they possibly can. They consistently strive to achieve their dreams!
My Project
When a teacher first walks into a classroom before the school year begins, they walk into a room of blank walls, chairs, and desks. It is a teacher's goal to transform this blank canvas not only into an aesthetically appealing classroom, but more importantly into an inspiring and peaceful learning environment for her students. My project is to create this space for my extraordinary students.
Students are more eager to learn in an environment that is comfortable and welcoming.
The materials I am requesting include world continents bulletin board cut outs, flags from 100 different countries, ways to say hello in different languages, and pictures of landmarks from around the world. These materials will allow me to create bulletin board displays that celebrate the diversity in our classroom and celebrate the countries from which my students' families came such as Mexico, Cuba, and Boliva. Using these materials, my students will enjoy exploring and researching different places around the world that they may not have had opportunities to visit. The travel themed pillows with prints of maps will help my students feel cozy in our reading center and let them find interesting places on the maps. All of these decorative and organizational materials will help my students to feel excited to be in our classroom and allow them to fully engage in their learning experience.
Without the help of generous donors, we are unable to afford the materials which will best help my students to feel welcome and safe in our learning community. Please help me to provide my students with the learning environment they need to have an exciting and successful school year.
