My students are a very diverse group of children with one thing in common--they all attend an urban, public Montessori school. Eighty-one percent of the students qualify for free lunch and 88% of the students are a racial minority.
We follow the teachings of Maria Montessori to meet the needs of the whole child--physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually through following and allowing the child to guide his or her learning.
Their curiosity and love of learning keep us striving to find new ways to engage them. Our school serves children from preschool through eighth grade.
My Project
I have a very diverse classroom. Not only is it multi-aged, but also multi-cultural. Throughout the year, I want to be able to present different books, lessons, crafts, and music about cultures all over the world.
It is very important to me that my students are well rounded when it comes to knowing about different cultures in the classroom as well as around the world.
The books and other materials that I chose will be a great starting point to exploring cultures all around the world. We are going to study the people, the food, the music, and where that particular culture is located geographically.
