My Students

My students live in the poorest county in the state of Michigan, according to a recent Detroit Free Press article. Many of these students travel to school by bus. Students come from very diverse backgrounds.

I called a parent and the first thing he said was thank you so much for loaning my son that book that he won't put down.

My efforts are focused on building a classroom library and a safe comfortable environment.

The focus of this project is books that support students from diverse backgrounds. My students range from those working on decoding skills to those developing fluency to those very capable readers who love good fiction or seek great nonfiction that challenges them. These children love sports and music. They keep me on my toes!

My Project

These books will add depth, variety, and diversity to our classroom. Students choose books for independent reading. Groups of students choose books for novel study. These books will give students more great options.

Thank you for considering supporting the students as we learn and grow.

We read to learn about our world, and we read for the enjoyment of reading. Developing a diverse library is one of our goals. Students often learn best when reading about the life of someone near their age from another time, place, or culture. Thank you for standing with us.
