Help me give my students books for a variety of interests! These books are perfect for learning about Black History Month, Cesar Chavez, Hispanic heritage, September 11th, inspiring women and developing a growth mindset!
I work with a diverse group of students whose backgrounds, needs, abilities, and interests vary greatly. My 2nd graders thrive with hands-on learning and love being able to show their knowledge and understanding through creativity. Whenever I can bring a topic or concept to life in meaningful and tangible ways, my students are able to make connections to their learning. It's exciting when they finally get it!
In my class, we focus on "perseverance." This is our goal for 2nd grade; to challenge ourselves, face problems head on, work through tough times and always try our best, both as individuals and as a team!
As a teacher, I am always looking for new ways to enhance learning, bring the curriculum to life, and incorporate hands-on activities. This is what excites them and encourages them to show up every day, ready to learn and curious about what I have in store for them. They are determined, now they just need the tools to become successful!
Children can learn so much through a variety of reading materials. As a second year teacher, I am still building my classroom library in hopes of providing my students with a wide range of topics to choose from. The books I've selected for my students cover a range of events and historical moments from Black History Month to September 11th.
I teach in a small agricultural community with many Chicano students who are worthy of seeing representation in children's literature.
I've selected many books about Hispanic heritage, historical Mexican-American figures and leaders like Cesar Chavez. I've also included many books on historical African-American men and women to help my students learn more about Black History Month. Child-friendly books on September 11th will play a vital role in helping my students understand more about our Nation's more recent history and how these events have impacted our country.
In addition to these important books, my students would greatly benefit from books that teach them about kindness, compassion, perseverance and confidence. Books like "Listening with My Heart: A Story of Kindness and Self-Compassion" and "I Can Do Hard Things" will help to do just that. I have rounded out this project with books for holiday's such as Valentine's Day and Christmas as well to provide all students with more imagination and understanding of these events.
