Help me give my students a new outlook on diversity. We are going to be learning a lot more about ourselves and others around us as we continue on with our school year.
I am the new Multiple Impaired special education teacher at this middle school. My caseload is 5 students who are with me 90% of the school day.
They all have varying disabilities that don't allow them to be full time in general education classrooms.
My students have very high needs and need help with their basic hygiene and some eating.
I plan to have them included in at least one general education class to get them integrated into the school with more typical peers as they used to be in elementary school.
I am looking for things that the students can easily use in our classroom to work on independently as well as assist them in self regulating strategies. My students each have a one on one who assist them throughout the day as well as myself.
My Project
We are working hard the rest of the year to teach diversity and inclusion. My classroom is more secluded due to the nature of my setting and I want to give my students some skills to go out and meet peers. The books I asked for are helpful for showing the differences between those around us as well as sensory items to help my students with coping strategies and calming times of our day.
My students will be working hands on to develop better motor skills as well as learn some new calming strategies.
We are working on ourselves, but also getting to know others outside our classroom walls.
