My students need books with a school environment saturated in print that will afford them the opportunity to delve more fully into the content area of different stories while pursuing areas of high interest to them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I service forty seconders who are passionate about learning and steadily cultivating literacy preferences through the exposure of different genres and series. Incorporating a wide variety of genres and series of books helps to encourage student growth in background knowledge and foster interests amongst classmates. We love series like Captain Under Pants, Dogman and Diary of A Wimpy Kid. More recently they have discovered characters like Amelia Bedelia and the mysteries solved by Cam Jansen. We serve students of all abilities ranging from special education, English as a second language, and gifted and talented.
My Project
The addition of more books within our classroom library will allow my students to delve more fully into the procurement of developing preferences of favorite authors. I am considering incorporating historical figures in our classroom library and more popular authors that offer high-interest subjects for my readers. As they discover different stories they will build up their background knowledge while pursuing areas of interest to them. I can provide many digital resources for them to read but want to afford them more picture book opportunities for the beginning of the school year. While reading new stories with familiar authors and characters, students will target skills like analyzing story elements, plot, character analysis, and themes. Allowing for more literacy resources will afford us the opportunity to make connections while we read and encourage students to develop a preference of favorite authors, series, and characters. As we gain more resources in our classroom library we can develop an overnight checkout system.
