My Students

Distracted and disheartened by the upheaval of what they knew before COVID-19, my group of high schoolers struggle to find the value in their own stories. I aim to build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences while encouraging students to find hope and joy in reading.

My Project

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of titles that will allow them to read independently and explore different, personal perspectives. These selections will help me diversify my classroom library.

Our small, rural, and predominantly white community needs it now, more than ever.

I hope to deliver material that amplifies the voices of young people of color, to shed light on the issues of systemic racism in our country, and to invite my students to re-discover (or discover for the first time, for many!) the joy of reading.
