My students are 6th graders attending an urban intermediate school. My students are on different learning levels grouped into a homogeneous setting. I have several students who are English Language Learners and others who receive special education services. Most receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My students come from wonderfully diverse backgrounds and bring different experiences to our classroom.
A diverse group of students means diverse learning styles and the need for differentiation of instruction. They respond well to varied teaching approaches that make learning fun and relatable.
My Project
The Chromebook I have requested will have a positive impact on my students' learning and will improve their school lives. I have seen time and time again that technology allows for students to feel connected, empowered, and engaged. Regardless of background, home life, or academic ability, the Chromebook will help all students research, explore, practice, and create. The Chromebook will also help especially in the ever-changing science world. My students will be able to discover new information and make better connections to our meteorology and astronomy units.
The Chromebook will help the students work both independently on their learning level, or collaboratively on group work.
Having Chromebooks from the past four projects has opened up a world of opportunity to my students and adding another Chromebook to our classroom will allow more students access to the technology.
As this project is one of many in my school, my colleagues and I hope to team up to decrease student disengagement by increasing our use of technology in our classrooms.
In the past, I have noticed that some of my students were only attending up to 85% of the school year, which is equivalent to missing at least one day each week. Missing this amount of time drastically impacts students engagement and their academic success. By incorporating the Chromebooks into my classroom, I hope to personalize learning for my students in a way that will increase engagement and, as a result, improve attendance as well.
